Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’ will be set in its own movie universe.
In a move that seems bizarrely uncharacteristic for big-budget blockbusters today, Robert Pattinson’s upcoming film, The Batman will a part of its own movie universe separate from the rest of the DC Extended Universe.
When it was discovered that Robert Pattinson was taking over the role of Batman from Ben Affleck, many wondered just how the upcoming film would factor into the DC Extended Universe and how they were going to explain the change. Many had theorized that the upcoming Flash film would somehow factor into this shift. The answer, as it turns out, is to just have The Batman take place in its own universe.
Earlier today, the news came in that HBO Max was developing a new Gotham P.D. based show with Matt Reeves and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter. The upcoming series will take place in the same universe as Robert Pattinson’s The Batman. During this announcement, they stated that the show “will be set in the world Reeves is creating for the feature film “The Batman,” with the intent being to launch a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.” While this doesn’t count out any potential crossovers in the future, it does show that, at least for the time being, Robert Pattinson’s The Batman will focus on its own universe without being bogged down by the continuity of others.
What do you all make of this? Are you glad to hear that The Batman will be focusing on its own universe instead of the DCEU? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
Plot details for The Batman are under wraps but the project will be centered on Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector. The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than what we’ve seen before in previous iterations of the character. The film is also expected to be the first installment to a new trilogy with Pattinson as Batman.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on The Batman and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more video content!
