The new limited series focuses on a world ravaged by a super-plague. Sound familiar?
The first footage from Stephen King’s The Stand on CBS All Access has arrived online teasing what to expect from the upcoming limited series.
Stephen King’s take on the apocalypse, The Stand, is receiving yet another live-action adaption following the 1987 miniseries which attempted to bring the critically acclaimed book to life. CBS All Access has amassed an impressive cast including Alexander Skarsgard, Aquaman star Amber Heard and Whoopie Goldberg in the modern version of the story set after a global pandemic has decimated 99% of the population. While that might feel scarily relevant for the moment, the first teaser for the Stephen King series is undeniably intriguing. Fans expecting to see a faithful interpretation of the book will be surprised to learn that it won’t start with patient zero Charles Campion escaping the military facility where the virus (named Captain Trips) was developed. Instead, Vanity Fair revealed it begins after the pandemic has left the world in ruins.
The Stand also brings James Marsden’s Stu Redman to the front of the show while iconic Stephen King villain Randall Flagg will assemble his armies throughout Boulder, Colorado and Las Vegas. The first teaser for the CBS All Access series spotlights Whoopie Goldberg’s Mother Abagail while teasing the empty world the heroes and villains inhabit as well as some of the creepier aspects of the show through Flagg. With episodes helmed by The New Mutants director Josh Boone, The Stand arrives on CBS All Access later this year on December 17, but until then watch the first teaser below.
