DevoHome, a Ukrainian textile company specializing in fabrics made from hemp fibers, recently debuted a hemp-based fur material. The plant-based fur mimics the feel and warming properties of real fur without harming any animals.
The eco-friendly textile is “woven from hemp fibers and viscose, a semi-synthetic material made from wood pulp on a knitted base of natural cotton.” This replicates the double coat of animals with fine, short fur protected by longer, coarser hair. DovoHome’s hemp-based fur is also naturally hypoallergenic, 100% organic, biodegradable, and is produced without pesticides or herbicides. Moreover, the plant-based fur is naturally antimicrobial with natural breathability and thermal qualities.
Founder and CEO Oksana Devoe commented on the inspiration behind the launch, stating: “The whole world is protesting against animal fur and then started protesting against synthetic fur, which is made of chemical and petroleum products. So, by creating plant-based fur, we solve all these issues with animal and synthetic fur.”
